Fear the Walking Dead' Sets Cable Ratings Record

Zombie alert! Last Sunday night, AMC aired the pilot episode of "Fear The Walking Dead" which received 10.1 million viewers, an extremely huge number for a cable tv program's premiere according to an article in Vancitybuzz.com.

"Fear The Walking Dead" is apparently the much-awaited spin-off to the popular AMC tv series "The Walking Dead". From the 10.1 million viewers, there are actually 6.3 million viewers within the highly valued adults 18 to 49 demographic in a report found in Variety.com. Nevertheless, "Fear The Walking Dead" didn't actually beat the 10.87 million viewers of The Walking Dead's third season premiere.

Acting as the prequel to the original series, "Fear The Walking Dead" is set in Los Angeles while the original is set in the state of Georgia.

Reviews on this new zombie drama series have been largely positive based on the 79% rating found on the website of Rotten Tomatoes.

In its review The Guardian wrote: "The programme's problems are small detractions from a show that is otherwise compelling and extremely effective in ruining your sleep schedule. I mean that as a compliment. Fear may be about the end of the world as we know it, but it is also about figuring out what is really important to us when tragedy strikes. That, too, is a wonderful similarity between this and its parent program."

"While The Walking Dead concerns itself with the terror of trying to rebuild civilization after it has been lost, "Fear The Walking Dead" is about what it would be like to lose the civilization that we know today," The Guardian added.

Created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, the first season of "Fear The Walking Dead" will consist of 6 episodes, whereas the second season will include fifteen episodes. Its first season finale will be immediately followed by The Walking Dead's sixth season's premiere come October 11, 2015.
