'Star Wars Battlefront' 2015: DICE Calls It A 'Casual Gamer's Game;' Features Offline and Split-Screen Missions, No True Narrative

On Thursday, a new report has surfaced saying that "Star Wars Battlefront" will feature offline and split-screen missions as DICE wants it to be a casual gamer's game. This recent detail was sourced from a translated PressFire interview of a Norwegian gaming website after the company spoke with DICE's Sigurlína Ingvarsdottir about the game, Design & Trend said.

"While some of the industry's most ardent players bemoan the growing casual nature of triple A games, 'Star Wars Battlefront' will do little to ease up on that trend. In the words of Ingvarsdottir, her studio is aiming for 'as wide appeal as possible.' Because of this, 'beginners [can] get started and enjoy the game relatively fast.' This essentially means that there should be little that's mechanically difficult about the moment-to-moment gameplay of 'Star Wars Battlefront.' It certainly won't be a shooter like 'Rainbow Six Siege' that revels in realistic one-hit deaths," the report stated.

DICE reportedly wants to create something that all members of the company's massive audience can eventually play. "Star Wars" offline and split-screen missions are part of DICE's idea since the two missions are intended for gamers who don't want to deal with multiplayer.

However, split-screen will only be available for Missions in offline co-op for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. "While a true narrative is absent from the game, its design still attempts to suit as many play styles as possible," the report said.

It was also reported that the game's space battles have a different mode which is called "Fighter Squadron." DICE explained this, saying, "We wanted to give the game a greater degree of three-dimensionality." This means that the company is focused on improving the world design rather than making maps big enough to support space battles.

Meanwhile, DICE has already revealed three new multiplayer game modes: Blast, Fighter Squadron, and Supremacy. "Our team is working to reveal new details around 'Star Wars Battlefront' on an almost weekly basis. Between game modes, features, hero reveals, etc., we have a lot coming. Stay tuned here and to our social channels as we roll out more details," "Star Wars" Mathew Everett said as posted on "Star Wars" website.
