College Freshmen Guide: Tips on How to Survive on Your Own in a Dorm

The most exciting life in college is living in a dorm. Here you meet people that may become part of your whole life. It is a really a stimulating experience to live in a small "home" with a complete strangers. The most common cause of anxiety college freshmen have happens during their first week of living with people they just met. Sometimes, it can be a beginning of a happy college life, and, God forbid, start of your academic suicide.

Your whole college life will depend on how you handle your own during your freshmen year living in dorm. Here is some few tips to help you overcome this stage of your life.

Open Up. Most college dorms separate ladies' and men's dorm. This mean that you can be living in an all dudes or all ladies dorm. The very first thing you need to do is to open up to your neighbors and especially to your roommate. Keep your doors open during the move in period to encourage others to come and introduce themselves to you, better yet, just take the initiative and introduce yourself. Most of your college free time will be revolving around these guys and gals so be sure to establish rapport.

Establish Ground Rules. This will be applied to your roommate. They maybe your high school buddy or complete stranger but that doesn't make any difference at all. You may know your buddy's outside of the house life but you never lived with them before. Make sure that you tackle each other's likes and dislikes, and from there establish some ground rules that both of you agreed to follow.

Be Observant, Be Safe. Entering dorm life also means doing some of your first, whatever it means to you. Be always wary of your surroundings and people you meet. You don't have your mother's danger instincts to protect you anymore.

College life is real fun but never forget why you are there in the first place. To Study.
