Ricky Martin to Donald Trump: “Latinos Must Be Respected”

Donald Trump for the past weeks of his campaign has been known for his xenophobic persuasive speeches. Such manner of speaking has not fallen to deaf ears, for just recently Ricky Martin wrote an op-ed against the 2016 presidential hopeful, Donald Trump.

On the said writing, which was published in Spanish on Univision and in English on Fusion, the Latino singer-actor said that Donald Trump has no right to make "absurd, incoherent, and ignorant" comments about them (Latinos) . On the said letter, he likewise cited the incident which involved Jorge Ramos, a well-respected Hispanic journalist, and the arrogance shown by Trump during a press conference in Iowa last Tuesday.

With all the so-called harassment and lies in the background, Martin felt obliged to write something to end this "lowest form of political strategy" and to express himself as an individual. On the published article, he stated that;

"The fact that a person like Donald Trump, a candidate for the U.S. presidency for the Republican Party, has the gall to continue to freely harass the Latino community day after day makes my blood boil." He then added. "Why would he assume he has the right to make absurd, incoherent, and ignorant comments about us? From the beginning, his intent has been clear: To basically tell lies and offend us to stay in the public spotlight."

Martin then continued to express his thoughts as he urged all Latinos to unite against the Republican candidate, Donal Trump. He then remarked that;

"If we have been united for some things, we must be united for all. We have already proven to the United States who we are as Latinos, and that we will not allow that type of behavior. We have to stop the power that Trump feels he has over Latinos, and the xenophobic speech that he and his campaign team seem to be convinced will be successful. Let's prove that Latinos must be respected. Let's not tolerate any politician using insults in the campaign. Let's respect those first-generation Latinos that arrived in the U.S. and opened a path for all of us. Each right that we have today, we have fought for."

This was not the first time that figures in the Latino community spoke and expressed their sentiments against Trump via internet. The anti-Latino remarks of Trump was also noticed and criticized by America Ferrera through her viral open letter.
