Marvel's 'Doctor Strange' Is Courting 'Hannibal' Star to Play Villain

Vulture.com announces that Dr. Lecter will live to eat again! The Danish actor, Mads Mikkelsen, who played as Dr. Lectre in NBC's recently discontinued series Hannibal is rumored to play the villain in Marvel's Doctor Strange. Artist Steve Ditko created the character in 1963 for Marvel Comics. His character though won't be anyone with a Ph.D. If the said rumor is true he will be joining the cast that is said to be composed of actors like Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo and Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular Doctor Strange.

The said announcement originally appeared in Variety, which has exclusively learned of Marvel's plans to cast Mikkelsen as a villain opposite Cumberbatch. According to the source, while Cumberbatch will play Stephen Vincent Strange, Mikkelsen's exact role is still under wraps. But has been reported that certainly he will be another antagonist to the titular sorcerer. According to the same report, some sources say that no offer has been made yet but there will be one very soon.

It was also reported that Doctor Strange will hit theaters in November 2016, with its production to commence late this year. Furthermore, Scott Derrickson is directing the comic book movie from a script by Jon Spaihts and Marvel's Kevin Feige will produce.

Furthermore, it was also reported that Marvel has been interested with the handsome Danish actor for some time. At one point, they wanted him to play Malekith in "Thor: The Dark World," until he was no longer available because he won the role of the cannibal with a Ph.D in NBC's Hannibal. So, the, Malekith role went to Christopher Eccleston.

The source also said that if accepted, this would be Mikkelsen's second high-profile role after "Hannibal's" cancellation. He is also reported to appear in "Star Wars: Rogue One," which will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
