The Steelers preseason just got worse. Le Veon Bell's suspension did not help. However, the said suspension being lowered from four games to just two, is probably the best news they have ever received.
Maurkice Pouncey's injury, Martavis Bryant's 4 game suspension, and their Saturday performance against the Buffalo Bills all wound up in one amusing week. Not to mention that the Steelers could be on their third kicker in the last month as Garrett Hartley got a hamstring injury on Saturday.
The Steelers' temporary loss of players may not exactly be the worst thing for the team as they still have 3 top-25 players that can handle the losses.
The question of defense is the one that entered this preseason. And it is also the question that the Bills got, as they went from no starting quarterbacks to three. The Steelers' pass defense had Bills feeling fine about their beset quarterbacks after the team had almost completed their first 25 passes for 304 yards.
The passing lanes were pretty much open. The Steelers are letting linebackers sit into a zone as they flare out the safeties and let the mediocre quarterbacks pick them all apart. The Steelers can go for the 'hey, it's preseason' approach but this isn't nice according to the ESPN blog. Also, this isn't the first time that they used a less established quarterback.
The Steelers have minor problems that can easily be corrected. They just probably miss Lawrence Timmons, the person who they could really use right now, as Timmons gets everything organized for linebackers. Mike Tomlin says that the absence of Timmons will force the others to grow. Whether he is simply sharing a fact or is he trying to foreshadow things, no one can tell. Timmon got a turf toe injury or a metatarsophalangeal joint sprain, which tortures dozens of players each season.
