"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 could see the end of Ian Somerhalder's Damon Salvatore. According to Jobs N Hire, there's a possibility that Somerhalder's character will be killed off towards the end of the season, and the actor has reportedly been teasing his fate on the show.
In a series of Instagram posts, the actor has been sharing photos from the set of "The Vampire Diaries" and at one point said that he is looking into the future. Fans of the actor and the hit The CW series immediately speculated that Somerhalder could now be open to pursuing other opportunities outside of the show.
In Season 6, Nina Dobrev exited the show after playing the role of Elena Gilbert. Throughout those six seasons, "The Vampire Diaries" focused mainly on Elena's love triangle with Damon and Stefan (Paul Wesley). Now that she will no longer be part of the series, fans are curious as to how the show will survive.
Additionally, fans became even more worried when they heard that Somerhalder could exit the show after Season 7. One fan commented that this could only mean that "The Vampire Diaries" will already end because Damon and Elena are key players in the series.
Meanwhile, executive producer Julie Plec slammed rumors that "The Vampire Diaries" could fail without Dobrev. According to her, the series could still go a long way and new storylines focused on the other characters could also be explored.
In an interview with Zap2It, Plec revealed some positives out of Dobrev's exit from the show.
"The singular positive of her being out of the picture is that we've had this massive ensemble over the years. If the story wasn't revolving around Stefan, Elena and Damon at its core and they weren't part of the story then they were sort of marginalized," she said.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 will premiere on the CW this fall.
