'Awkward' Season 5 Spoilers & Premiere: Two Prom Episodes, Graduation & Grad Night Confirmed

The upcoming fifth season of "Awkward" will be filled with various events such as two prom nights, one graduation and a graduation ball. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini talked about the upcoming installment of the hit MTV series.

According to Chessler, the final season of "Awkward" will also serve as the end and the beginning for the lives of the characters.

"I think 5A really is tied to the sort of seminal events of senior year that we all went through, that Chris and I and our writing staff also went through. We can talk about what ours were like, and I think most viewers are either looking forward to those events or have already experienced them," he said.

Meanwhile, "Awkward" Season 5 will also focus on Lacey Hamilton's (Nikki DeLoach) storyline and how she will continue to parallel her life with that of her daughter Jenna (Ashley Rickards).

"We will continue to see Lacey's path. One of the things that really attracted us to the show when we first took over it was the how the parents were such real characters in the show - and so well integrated," Alberghini said. He added that it is really such a joy to have worked with DeLoach because she can do so many things on "Awkward."

In other news, there are rumors that "Awkward" could have an upcoming reboot in recent years. Although the show was already cancelled by MTV just after five seasons, Alberghini and Chessler are positive that there's a chance for a reboot.

The co-showrunner said that the entire cast of "Awkward" are on board with the idea. They added that if the rumors were to be true, they would be more than willing to come up with interesting storylines, according to Vine Report.

"Awkward" Season 5 will premiere on MTV on Aug. 31.
