Andrew Garfield Talked About The Pressure Of Being "The Amazing Spider-Man," Revealed Frustrations

Donning the Spider-Man costume was not an easy task with all the frustrations and creative challenges, Andrew Garfield recently revealed as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

"The pressure to get it right, to please everyone ... it's not going to happen," the actor of the two "The Amazing Spider-Man" films said to Playlist in Los Angeles while promoting his new film "99 Homes."

"You end up pleasing no one, or everyone just a little bit. Like, 'Eh, that was good.' [The films are] mass-marketed, like 'We want 50-year-old white men to love it, gay teenagers to love it, bigot homophobes in Middle America to love it, 11-year-old girls to love it.' That's canning Coke," he added.

Garfield took on the role of the wall-crawler superhero in a reboot of Sony. However, Sony's "The Amazing Spider-Man" films were not so well received by the audience which led the franchise for another reboot. This time Marvel took over, with Tom Holland as the new "Spidey."

While the whole team is said to have tried to infuse the ASM movies with "soul" and "uniqueness," Garfield still acknowledged the fact to make the film worthy of its supposed price. "I understand people want to make a lot of money, and they're going to spend a lot of money so the playpen can be as big as it was. I can't live that way; it sounds like a prison, to be honest, living within those expectations," he said.

Will "The Social Network" star do another franchise? According to Indiewire, Garfield said, "With a film like ["The Amazing Spider-Man"], there's so much projection and expectation that is inherent in taking on a story and character like that. I was well up for the challenge, and I still am. I'm not going to shy away from something that a lot of people are going to see. Fuck it, bring it on, life's short."

But Emma Stone's former leading man admitted that he feels lighter now compare to carrying the load of being "Spidey". In his interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this month, he said "I'm just really excited to just be a fan again as opposed to bearing the weight of it."
