LG is set to launch a swankier version of their answer to Apple Watch, LG Watch Urbane. The company has partnered with jeweler Reeds for the luxury watch. It's set to be plated with 23-karat gold and an alligator leather strap option.
Techcrunch reports that the watch is now available for pre-order at Reeds' official website and it's set to be sold at a neat price tag of $1,200. Apparently, there's a demand for a luxury smartwatch, and LG just found a way to supply such.
To add more of a luxurious and exclusive element to the product, the jewelers indicate that "each LG Watch Urbane Luxe is individually numbered and presented in a piano gloss lacquered case with a signed certificate of authenticity."
The Android watch has been getting good reviews, and critics even say that it looks better than the Apple Watch. The praise is more directed to its design which features a more sophisticated look.
Pocket-Lint made an in-depth review about the new product. They praise its good motion sensors that respond well to the user's action, and they say that the smartwatch boasts smarter software that is "more mature than it was previously."
Android Wear is also launching for iOS today with the LG Watch Urbane. Android Police reports that it's going to be compatible for most iPhones which run on iOS 8.2 and above. Its compatibility with other Android watches shall be expected in the near future.
"This suggests there may be a restriction in play with older Wear hardware in regard to iOS compatibility, and that essentially only future devices (again, Urbane aside) will be supported," the report said. In an updated statement, Google says that it might work for current Android Wear users in the future, but they don't guarantee 100 percent functionality.
