One of ABC's thriller drama series had its season finale tonight, and fans of "The Whispers" are still waiting for announcements if the show will be renewed for Season 2.
In the season finale episode titled "Game Over," it was reported that Sean (Milo Ventimiglia) and Claire (Lily Rabe) were able to save Henry (Kyle Harrison Breitkopf). However, Claire ended taking his place in a mysterious beam which is believed to be one of Drill's alien ships.
According to Zap2it, the show ended with unexpected twists as the aliens turned out to be coming for the children. Meanwhile, Blastr reports that the show stars' contracts ended in June, and ABC has made no announcements yet as to whether the show will come back for Season 2.
For the last two weeks, the show's ratings fell to a series low of 2.52 million viewers, according to Bustle. During last week's episode, the show only garnered a slight increase with 2.68 million views and 0.6 rating.
According to the site, the network is likely not to take the ratings as a serious letdown because most of the viewers are in vacation for the summer. The show is reportedly still considered to have done well alongside other breakout hits like Lifetime's "UnREAL" and USA's "Mr. Robot." However, unlike "The Whispers," the said shows have already been renewed for Season 2.
It reportedly seems like high viewership is not the basis for a show's renewal. It was reported that Fox's "Wayward Pines" got average views of 3.82 million; however, it was not renewed for Season 2.
It was also earlier reported that the show's producer revealed that if "The Whispers" will be renewed for Season 2, the crew is already planning to explore different themes but with the same tone as of Season 1. As of writing, ABC is yet to make an announcement regarding the renewal or cancellation of the show.
