On Monday, software giant Microsoft has denied the rumor that it is planning to launch an Xbox One Mini alongside other new smartphones, tablets and wearable tech. An executive from the company said that an Xbox One Mini console is unlikely to be materialized. Microsoft's Phil Spencer, head of Xbox Division, tagged the news via Twitter last week as "not real," a report from TechTimes said.
Earlier this month, Chinese tech website WPDang reported that Microsoft is set to launch a mini model of Xbox One console. The website claims that the rumored Xbox One Mini will drop the Blu-ray disc feature. Aside from this, the rumored device is said to be both "quieter and smaller" as it only weighs in about a third the size when compared to the current console model.
"Perhaps they were all easy guesses, but the only hardware not yet confirmed is the idea of an Xbox One Mini, which up till now hasn't been rumored at all. Although slimmed-down hardware is now a regular part of most console's lifespan they usually only arrive in the third or fourth year, and the Xbox One won't even be two years old until November," Metro UK said.
The Verge said that "Spencer's unequivocal comment makes it appear that not only will the console not see the light of day in October, but that Microsoft is not currently in the process of making a miniature version of its jumbo-sized home console."
Gamespots reports that Microsoft has a history of redesigning its gaming consoles throughout the controller's life cycle. For instance, the Xbo 360 had an Elite model in 2007, and a slimmed down version was released in 2010. It was emphasized, however, that Spencer's brief response does not eventually rule out the possibility that the company will release a mini version of the console in the future. It just certainly won't happen this year.
