The reality shows have really made its marked since even the president of the United States have taken part. According to a recent report by The Washington Post, " Bear Grylls landed President Obama on his reality show, where they'll talk global warming in Alaska." It was further speculated that President Obama will "receive a crash course in survival techniques" from Grylls, presumably under the protective eye of the Secret Service as stated in a report by by The Washington Post. The president will get some tips on how to tackle the challenges in the woods by teaming up with Bear Grylls for an NBC reality special. The president will tape an episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls during his upcoming visit to Alaska as stated in a previous report by Entertainment Weekly. The challenge also has another agenda in mind. The show was designed to raise awareness about the dangers of climate change. "Alaskans are already living with its effects," Obama said in his radio address Saturday as conveyed by Entertainment Weekly
Although the aim and motive is good, it has drawn negative setbacks from others. One particular group called PETA. According to a recent post by The Washington Post, "The president's appearance with Grylls, a former British soldier and survivalist, has drawn a negative response from PETA, the animal rights group, condemned the president's support for a show that it described in a statement as the bottom of the barrel, demeaning and sexist."
PETA believes that there are better ways to promote awareness. Not only in this method. It appears that Grylls will bring more heat as the President himself joins the race for survival. Grylls has starred in several wilderness reality shows in the past. He was a soldier in the British Special Forces and went on to become one of the youngest climbers ever to reach the summit of Mount Everest as further reported by Entertainment Weekly.
