'Mortal Kombat X' News: WB Games Cancels Xbox 360 and PS3 Versions

Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4 are slowly conquering the field of video game platform, leading to more and more cancellation of games for the older consoles, specifically the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The most recent game to be slashed out from the two old consoles is 'Mortal Kombat X'.

The game's publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, formally stated that the Xbox 360 and PS3 will no longer have "Mortal Kombat X." In their community blog, Yorick apologized in behalf of the company for not being able to provide what they had promised to players who own older consoles.

The statement reads, "After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game." The company further explained that the main reason behind these cancellations was that the developers were simply not able to produce a game that is, at any rate, on par with the Xbox One and PS4 versions.

It was originally expected that "Mortal Kombat X" for both PS3 and 360 will hit the stores by June 2015, then the schedule was postponed to late 2015, although no exact date for release was announced. In the end, though many were not surprised with the cancellations, the news still left fans disappointed.

As for those who pre-ordered the game, Yorick instructed the gamers to go back and get a refund from the retail stores where they previously ordered the game from.

Mortal Kombat X is developed by NetherRealm Studios, and is the 10th installment in the "Mortal Kombat" franchise. Identical to all of its forerunners, the gameplay includes two player variations where gamers can choose between player versus CPU, and player one versus player two. Each player controls characters with different abilities and attack methods.

"Mortal Kombat X" for Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions were rolled out last April 14.
