David Bowie, Steven Tyler, Cyndi Lauper to Participate on the Upcoming SpongeBob Musical

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Absorbant and yellow and porous is he!

The line which you just read is not a riddle to answer, but rather it's a lyric from the very famous Nickelodeon show, "Spongebob Squarepants." Such line would not only be heard from the television and the internet, for soon it will also be showcased on a stage production.

The said Broadway musical aims to preserve the things which made SpongeBob an indelible character since the show started in the latter part of the 90'. And in order to do so, the Broadway musical we'll be participated by some known figures in the music industry such as Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Jonathan Coulton, Dirty Projectors, The Flaming Lips, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T's, They Might Be Giants and T.I. Oh, and David Bowie.

Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon's president of content development and production, stated those mentioned artists are genuine SpongeBob fans. In a statement via theguardian he was quoted saying;

"All of those amazing composers are fans of SpongeBob. Music has always been an important part of the show and everyone saw this as a real creative challenge."

The director of the musical Tina Landau, promised that the humor of the character would be retained and yet be presented in new way. In a statement she said that;

"We're taking our leads from the TV show but this is an original story, with an original design approach, and original songs written just for the occasion by an amazing array of songwriters. We will present the world of Bikini Bottom and its characters in a whole new way that can only be achieved in the live medium of the theatre," Landau added. "We're bringing the show's fabled characters to life through actors - not prosthetics or costumes that hide them - and we're deploying some unconventional stage craft that will prove that anything can happen in Bikini Bottom."
