'Angry Birds' Movie Release Date, Cast, Images, Plot: The Bird-Pig War Begins

When Rovio developed "Angry Birds" in 2009, not a lot have anticipated its overflowing success. It was a simple game that has reached the peak of its popularity with over 3 billion downloads across the globe and across all platforms. The game launched Rovio to international success with licensed merchandise showing up in stores all over the world. And even though "Angry Birds 2" wasn't as successful as the first one, it didn't do bad as well, with over 20 million downloads from across the globe.

After months of "Angry Birds" success we have already heard rumors about the production of its movie adaptation. The whole project took years to finally come up with a release date, and now it has finally been set! 2016 is the year for the "Angry Birds" movie! With the announcement of the release date and the boarding of John Cohen as the producer for the film, "Angry Birds" filming has finally started to progress. Screenwriter John Vitti who is also known for his works with "The Simpsons" will also be working on this movie. Co directors have also been announced, Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly are on board to direct the Angry Birds movie.

The game's success can't be denied. The question that runs through the fans' minds however, is how can this game be translated to come up with a movie? Cohen shared some of his insight into what the plot of the movie is gonna be. "The question Rovio gets more than anything is 'Why are these birds so angry?' This is the origin story for how that conflict came to exist between birds and little green piggies."

The plot will go around Red's anger problems. Red lives in an all bird island and he has problems controlling his anger. But he isn't alone in this problem as Chuck and the explosive Bomb are also having the same anger problems as he is having. And it is up to this three to defend their island from the green pigs. Voice actors for this film include Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, and Danny McBride.

Fergal Reilly shared her comments about the challenge brought about by this movie adaptation of the game. "These are icons in a game that appear to be characters, but really they're just icons. So it's up to us to flesh them out... It's an advantage that we have such a huge brand. A lot of iconic movies come from branded entertainment. But you have to quickly forget about that when you're working on the movie because you still have to, you know, make the movie."

"Angry Birds" will be in U.S. theaters on May 20th, 2016.
