Warner Bros. Television has announced that Iddo Goldberg will be joining CBS' "Supergirl." The actor has been cast for the role of Dr. T.O. Morrow and the Red Tornado.
The studio described the CBS series' Red Tornado as "the most advanced android the world has ever seen," reports Comic Book.com. The scientist, Dr. T.O. Morrow, designed the android as the ultimate superweapon for the U.S. Army. However, the android reportedly became "sentient, posing a grave danger to National City -- including the people Supergirl cares about most."
According to Comic Book, it is still unclear how Goldberg will play both characters. In the DC comics, Dr. Morrow and Red Tornado are two separate characters. The scientist is reportedly evil, while Red Tornado is a longtime member of the Justice League. Some of the site's speculations surrounding Goldberg's dual role included a possible accident that could have fused the two characters together. This would explain Red Tornado's "deviant behavior," stated Comic Book.
Another of the site's theories involved Dr. Morrow potentially building an android following his likeness. The "Salem" actor would then act as the scientist physically in "Supergirl," but do voice work for Red Tornado.
At this time, there are still many questions about Goldberg's role in the CBS series. Red Tornado in the DC comics was initially built as a weapon for the Justice League, states Cinema Blend. However, the android was able to fight his programming and eventually became a superhero. Over time, Red Tornado reportedly developed his own personality and lived among humans as a teacher named John Smith.
Meanwhile, Cinema Blend did mention one of the DC comics scenarios that would be interesting to see in "Supergirl." According to the site, Lois Lane's mind was downloaded into a Red Tornado body in the current Earth 2 comics. This may be one of the storyline twists that could be featured on future seasons of the CBS series, states the site.
Fans would need to watch "Supergirl" to find out more about Red Tornado.
"Supergirl" will premiere on CBS on October 26 at 8:30pm. The series will then move to its normal Monday timeslot of 8pm on November 2.
