PS4 Console: System Software Update Features YouTube Streaming, 10 GB Cloud Storage And More

Earlier this week, Sony has announced that PlayStation 4 will be getting a firmware update. The company will be rolling out the console's updated firmware version 3.00 codenamed as "Kenshin."

The console update will bring major changes and new features such as YouTube video streaming. Aside from these, the video game console will also have a cloud storage facility of 10 GB, a report from Design & Trend said on Thursday.

"We've been busy preparing our next major system software update for PS4, version 3.00 (codename: Kenshin). The update is packed with content, and we wanted to give you a quick glance at its key features. If you were selected for our beta program, you'll get to see these features first-hand very soon. Keep in mind, some of this content might not make it into the final version - that's why we're having a beta, after all. We've added new ways to connect with friends and players around the world, expanding the social capabilities of the system even further," Sony Vice President of Platforms Marketing John Koller said in a statement via Playstation Blog.

According to the report, the console's Kenshin update is considered to be the "biggest" that will be rolled out for the PlayStation 4 system since it was released two years ago. Koller pointed out that the update will only be available to registered beta testers. However, he failed to give specific details as to when the update will be released to non-beta testers.

Tech Times reports that with the console's latest update, gamers will now have the capability to livestream various games straight from YouTube. This includes YouTube's new gaming application and website, which was recently launched by the search giant Google.

"The feature is similar to the one that allows users to stream games over Twitch, and is part of YouTube's effort to attract the millions of gamers that have flocked to Twitch. For shorter videos, gamers can also now share their clips on Twitter, but for now these are limited to 10-second clips," the report noted.

A full list of features and contents of the PlayStation 4 "Kenshin" update can be viewed via the PlayStation Blog website.
