Celebrity Real Estate: Former President Richard Nixon’s Cali Vacation Home is for Sale for $75 Million

The stunning California vacation home of former President Richard Nixon is for sale for $75 million. The residence was dubbed the 'Western White House' because of so much time he spent there. When he retired, this 5-acre property is where he wrote memoirs. According to Zillow, it was in 1969 when the former U.S. President became the owner of "La Casa Pacifica'' ("The House of Peace'').

HLNTV said the mansion features nine bedrooms and 11 and a half bathrooms. The main house is 9,000 square feet. It also has an entertainment pavilion and a separate, two-bedroom guesthouse. The grounds also boast a lighted tennis court, a pool, and several flower and vegetable gardens, all surrounded by tall cypress trees. The estate also has 480 feet of beachfront with walking trails and picturesque views of the sunset over the ocean.

Former President Richard Nixon bought the San Clemente, California house in 1969 for $1.4 million. Dubbed the Western White House, the 5.45 acre estate has been put on sale for $75 million. The former president hosted 17 heads of state including Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger at the mansion which was built in 1926.

According to the report of Daily Mail, the property is made up of a 9,000 square feet 'grand pavilion' and also boasts several satellite residences for staff, according to the Orange County Register. It also features several security annexes which proved useful to Nixon for accommodating his ever-present Secret Servicemen. In 1980, Nixon moved out and sold it to pharmaceutical CEO Gavin S. Herbert. Herbert, now 83, has owned it ever since and he has expanded the home under his ownership, adding a basement and renovating other parts. Herbert told the Wall Street Journal that putting the house on the market was 'a very hard decision'.  He said: 'I think we felt we were caretakers. We care a lot about who the next caretakers would be.'
