Jessica Alba has issued a statement addressing the $5 million class-action suit filed against The Honest Company that the "Dark Angel" star co-owns. The lawsuit claims that Alba's company is misleading the public with their products which are labeled to contain natural ingredients but are actually mixed with artificial components.
According to Huffington Post, Jessica Alba and her partners at The Honest Company are being sued for mislabeling and purposely making people believe that the products they are selling are "all-natural" when in fact they added some synthetic ingredients to them. The case filing is headed by Jonathan D. Rubin and it is indicated in the lawsuit that he wants $5 million in compensation for damages.
In response to the allegations, Alba released a statement to Pret-a-Reporter saying that the case is "without merit and baseless." She also went on to say that before The Honest Company was formed, she became frustrated with the lack of healthy and safe products for her and her family. She was pregnant with her first daughter and she could not find anything in the market that even comes close to what she had in mind. It was then she became involved with the company.
She also said, "We believe that consumers deserve to know what's in their products - whether it's diapers for their children, cleaning products for their families or beauty products for themselves. Our formulations are made with integrity and strict standards of safety, and we label each ingredient that goes into every product - not because we have to, but because it's the right thing to do."
It was also noted that The Honest Company is now estimated to value at $1.7 billion with its star founder being hailed as one of the top self-made businesswomen in the country. However, this is not the first time the company has faced problems with its products. Just last month, consumers complained that the SPF 30 sunscreen they were selling did not work as advertised but rather burned users.
