‘Sherlock Holmes’ Season 4 Release Date: Filming to Start in 2016; A ‘Victorian Gentleman’ Sherlock Awaits Fans in Christmas Special

BBC intends to reveal special episode that will make fans get hooked-up again to "Sherlock," short stories. This will happen before the release date of the fourth season of "Sherlock." Steven Moffat, co-producer of the series, discussed why they decided to continue with the project.

It was explained that it is not just about the setting; Moffat said that Benedict Cumberbatch will also show the other side of Sherlock. He will be more refined, as a Victorian gentleman rather than the current character he's playing in the modern age Sherlock. The specials is rumored to be like a stand-alone project, and not at all connected to the next season. Moffat further explained, "We wouldn't have done the story we're doing, and the way we're doing it, if we didn't have this special. It's not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it - as we could hardly conceal - it's Victorian."

Although, the actor expressed his issue that viewers may not like Sherlock's change in attitude, it's the abrasiveness of his character that shapes the core in the modern age adaptation of the series.

With the series' fourth season not due to start shooting until 1026 and not anticipated on the TV screens until the early part of 2017, the fans would need to wait longer as season 3 finale was aired in 2014.

On the other hand, it's not a "doomsday," for the fans, producers Steven Mofatt and Mark Gatiss are busy putting a cast together long enough to make an extra ordinary Christmas Special.

What does the public know so far?

Aside from the information that Martin Freeman has amazingly "pimpin" moustache, there will a new setting and backdrop.

The Christmas Special will show Sherlock Holmes played by Benedict Cumberbatch and John Watson played by Martin Freeman, brought from modern age London to 1995 era.
