No, the White House is not for sale. However, the thought of how much it would cost if it were listed has crossed people's minds for ages. Realty website, Zillow, ventured into curious waters and placed a value on "The President's Abode."
After much calculation, Zillow found out that if the White House were to ever go up for sale, it would probably be listed at $300 million.
The website used the exclusive proprietary Zestimate® algorithm that analyzes a property's worth based on current listing prices of the market. As per the estimate, the precise value of the White House was summed up to be around $ 294.9 million. Additionally, the value of the home rose to 7 percent after Barack Obama moved into the White House along with his family, reports Zillow.
However, the value of the property was the highest in 2006, when George W. Bush presided over the esteemed estate. The value was summed up to be close to $299.9 million in July 2006. Its lowest value was recorded in August 2012, summing up to $271.1 million.
The White House was built in a neoclassical style by architect James Hoban in 1800. Since then, the place has been given various makeovers and face-lifts adding to its current dignity and grace. The property has been home to numerous American presidents starting with John Adams.
The White House currently comprises of the main Executive Residence, two wings- eastern and western, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and the Blair House. The majestic main unit comprises of six stories including a double story basement! A total of 132 rooms including 16 bedrooms and 35 bathrooms along with three kitchens make up the property sitting on 18 acres of D.C land.
