"Hitman: Agent 47" star Zachary Quinto is known to be a great actor that can take on any role, but there's no denying that he will always be best known for his role as the beloved Spock in the 2009 reboot of "Star Trek." He recently revealed in an interview at Hamptons Magazine via Just Jared that he was the only one who auditioned for the role!
He shared that since "Star Trek" has a huge following to begin with, taking care of its legacy and keeping it true to its roots was very important. Director J.J. Abrams also shared the same sentiment, especially that the original Spock Leonard Nimoy was on board too.
Nimoy picked Quinto for the role and they had a wonderful relationship every since. He said, "I was the only person who auditioned for the role... It was something where he saw some of my work and thought that I was a good pick. Then we met, and our relationship took on a life of its own and we became close. I became close with his wife and his family."
Given Nimoy and Quinto's relationship, the new Spock reportedly feels he's now playing the role at a spiritual level, and he appreciates how old and new fans are able to be "on board" with his portrayal.
Leonard Nimoy passed away at the age of 83 last February, and Quinto mentioned that his death was really hard on him. Entertainment Weekly reports that after Nimoy's death, Quinto gives even more importance to his role as he says, "carrying the torch fully for the role is important."
The third installment to the "Star Trek" reboot titled "Star Trek Beyond" is set for a July 2016 release. J.J. Abrams will be taking a step back as director, and Justin Lin will be taking his place. Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, and lots of other stars will be reprising their respective roles.
