Ubisoft, the force behind some of today's most popular games (Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, Just Dance), has just made a big announcement last Sept. 7 on its news outlet, UbiBlog. The company is set to build a 100,000 square feet "next generation" theme park in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to open in 2020.
At the helm of the project is Ubisoft Motion Pictures, which also oversees the company's film and television projects.
"Ubisoft's intention for this park is to immerse people in reactive worlds where they can interact with each other and become the heroes of their own life-sized game," Jean de Rivières, senior vice president of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, stated on Ubiblog.
On why the Paris-based company decided to bring its very first theme park to Asia, Rivières had this to say: "Malaysia is the second-most-visited country in Asia. There is room for multiple projects to take root in the region and a growing middle class with an increasing income and appetite for entertainment."
Last year, Ubisoft worked with France's Futuroscope to create and launch a 3D dark ride based on its 'Raving Rabbids' game. This time, the company is looking into getting Malaysian theme-park developer RSG to maintain and operate the park, while Ubisoft will control creative direction.
As Ubisoft is known for its creativity and innovation, the park will surely be first of its kind. And although the company did not disclose which of its franchises will be featured in the park, fans and gaming enthusiasts expect 'Assassin's Creed', the company's flagship series, to be one of the major attractions.
The game will also be turned into a movie, with Ubisoft announcing Michael Fassbender to play the title role. "Assassin's Creed" begins filming this week in various locations in Europe and is scheduled for release in Dec. 2016.
