Auckland Hotels: New Waterfront Hotel Set for $200M, Luxury Property to Open in 2017

A new luxury waterfront hotel will be built in Auckland, Auckland Council's Panuku Development Auckland branch announced. The hotel will be named Park Hyatt Auckland and will be constructed by Fu Wah International Group. It is set to open in 2017.

According to NZ Herald, the real estate project is priced at $200 million. A public space and art display at Wynyard Quarter will be immediately constructed as part of the hotel, which will cost $2.5 million.

Stuff.co.nz reports that the new hotel will have seven stories and 195 rooms. The facilities planned for the luxury hotel include a ballroom, business facilities such as meeting rooms, and entertainment amenities such as a day spa, gym or health center, and private dining space/function room.

Interim chief executive of council organisation Panuku Development Auckland John Dalzell claims that the Auckland property will set a new standard of premium accommodation for Auckland.

"This is a landmark site for Wynyard Quarter and is deserving of a building of the standard, the developer and its design team have come up with. It's great to see it pass this latest milestone and we look forward to the positive impact the hotel will have on the waterfront and the region," he said.

Auckland Mayor Len Brown believes the real estate project can help attract high-profile individuals to Auckland and create jobs in the city's business district as well.

"This hotel means more jobs and a strong step into the lucrative but largely untapped high-net-worth individuals tourism sector - which will be a huge benefit to Auckland's economy and future," he said.
