Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt Split: ’Mad Men’ Star’s Party-Heavy Lifestyle and Alcoholism Fueled End of Their 18-Year Romance

Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt had been together for 18 years, but reports have it that their recent split was fueled by his party-heavy lifestyle and voluntary 30-day rehab stint in March.

There were reports saying that they had actually broken up for months since he entered into rehab. Hamm and Westfeldt's split is said to be a long time coming. She reportedly got tired of being his "mother" and she wanted him to grow up, but he never wanted to, according to Entertainment Online.

"Jon and Jennifer really fought hard to make their relationship work, Jennifer more so than Jon," the source said. "They were together for many years, but in the end, it was too much work. It's no secret that Jon likes to go out and leads a very party-heavy lifestyle. And Jennifer was just tired of that."

Despite being together for 18 years, the two did not have children together. Another insider revealed that the 45-year-old writer/director desperately wanted to have a child, but he had been constantly saying he's not ready yet. They were not on the same page which led to many altercations in the recent months, Celeb Dirty Laundry reports.

Fans of the longtime couple were distraught about their breakup. On Monday, Hamm and Westfeldt announced their split. "With great sadness, we have decided to separate, after 18 years of love and shared history. We will continue to be supportive of each other in every way possible moving forward."

In the past, Hamm and Westfeldt were often questioned on why they never tied the knot. "I don't have the marriage chip, and neither of us have the greatest examples of marriages in our families," Hamm told Parade in July 2010 via UsWeekly. "But Jen is the love of my life, and we've already been together four times longer than my parents were married."
