Google Express is now ready to serve the Midwest in Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa and Wisconsin. The search giant also announced its entry into the same-day and overnight delivery of fresh foods and grocery which is a direct challenge to its rival Amazon.
Google Express announced that its same-day and overnight delivery service is now available in the Midwest particularly in key locations in Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin. According to Detroit Free Press, Google wants to give online shoppers the option to buy stuff without the need to visit a store. It is not the first time Google made the service available; it actually began in 2013 when it was launched in San Francisco followed by Boston, Chicago, New York, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C.
Brian Elliot, Google Express general manager said, "Our goal with Google Express is to offer a great shopping experience and connect people with their favorite stores helping them get what they need, when they want it." He added, "Today, we're very excited to be further expanding our efforts and bringing fast delivery to over 25 million people in the Midwest."
Meanwhile, in a report by Bloomberg Business, Google Express is said to be joining the fray in the fresh food and grocery delivery service. The initial testing phase will be done in San Francisco and another undisclosed city. Google has already began catering to merchandise and dry foods delivery but this move is seen as a clear challenge to AmazonFresh, which is a service provided by Google's online adversary Amazon.
Elliot of Google Express said, "For a lot of our merchants that have been successful with this, we're not representing the whole store today. It's in our incentive, as well as the merchant's incentive, for us to help customers get the full store delivered to them."
