President Obama Goes Wild With Bear Grylls

Wild, rough, and sporting a pair of rugged sweats and a black windbreaker -- you haven't seen President Obama like this before.

The president joined survival guru and TV host Bear Grylls in Alaska last week, where he filmed a special episode for Grylls' NBC show, "Running Wild with Bear Gryll." The show is known to feature Grylls roughing it up while demonstrating survival skills, sometimes even eating carcasses and drinking his own urine. President Obama did not escape this, as he munched on a "bloody carcass" a real bear has left behind. It's salmon, and Grylls made sure to cook it properly before serving it to the president. Obama described it to be "tasty," adding, "It would have been nice if we had a cracker to go with it."

As for the host's cooking skills, President Obama jokingly commented, "Bear's a mediocre cook, but the fact that we ate something recognizable was encouraging."

He called the experience "one of the best days" of his presidency. "First of all, I'm not in the office. Second of all, I'm not in a suit," he told Grylls while filming.

Obama documented his Alaskan adventure and shared pictures on The White House's Instagram account. He also snapped a selfie with Grylls, writing on the caption, "Glad this was the only Bear I met in the park. - bo"

The episode was shot while President Obama was visiting Alaska to learn more about the effects of climate change on the Alaskan wilderness, making him the first president to ever travel above the Arctic Circle. On his blog, the president shared his thoughts on the trip and urged everyone to act decisively, saying, "this is the only planet we've got--and we've got to do everything to protect it."

The special episode will air on NBC later this year.
