Former Morgan Stanley chairman, John J. Mack's New York duplex penthouse has reportedly hit the real estate listing market with a price tag of $22.5 million. Mack and his wife Christy purchased the place back in 2009 from horticulturist, Bunny Mellon, for $13.5 million.
Bunny Mellon recently sold her Osterville residence to billionaire Bill Koch for $19.5 million.
The Mack home is a huge Beaux arts style property located on the Upper East Side of New York. As per the listing records, the double story property is spread across an area of 3650 square feet and comprises of four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. Along with the main rooms, the place also has a small servant's unit.
The lower floor of the penthouse features a 26-foot-long living room with a cozy fireplace. Along with the living room, a kitchen, a library, a dining room and the master suite make up the lower floor. A small guest bedroom also exists on the floor.
Two guest bedrooms along with a laundry, a 27-foot-long solarium and a wet bar, make up the upper level. The terrace features exclusive patio furniture and sports scenic views of the city.
Apart from the New York penthouse, the couple also owns a property in Rye, New York, and five beachside estates of which three are occupied and two vacant.
Mack was one of the most important members of the Morgan Stanley family. He joined the banking firm in 1972 to become a board member in 1987. He took up the post of chief operating officer in 1993. Mack left Morgan Stanley in 2001 only to return as CEO of the firm in 2005. He stepped down from the post in September 2011. He also had a successful stint at Credit Suisse from 2001 to 2004.
In March 2012, Mack was hired by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, a leading international investment company, as senior advisor.
