Alexander Haig’s Virginia Estate listed for $5.5 Million

Alexander Haig, former secretary of state's Virginia Home in McLean has been put up for sale for $5.49 million. Haig served under President Ronald Reagan and was also the White House supervisor of staff under President Richard Nixon.

Haig died in 2010 and his wife Patricia passed away in 2012, which triggered the listing of their property. The couple purchased the estate for $7 million in 2006.

The home is a three story Georgian style home spread across a majestic 11,725 square feet. Sporting picturesque views of the Potomac River, the property comprises of five bedrooms and nine bathrooms along with eight beautiful fireplaces, reports Wall Street Journal.

A formal living and dining room along with a library and gallery make up the ground floor. In addition to these features, two kitchens, a patio and a recreation room also exist. The second floor has the giant master suite. The property sits on a one acre land and also has a gym, a detached servant quarters and a spa as well, reports WSJ.

The location of the home is equally majestic as Prince Bandar Bin Sultan of Saudi Arabia also owns a home on the same street. Moreover, the home is just 10 minutes away from Washington, reports Curbed.

Though Haig's attempts at running for President were hardly noticed, the man who served under two presidents, was a dynamic aide to the leaders. He died at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore at the age of 85 in February 2010, reports NY Times.

Haig was a pillar of strength during the "Watergate Scandal" as well.

"By sheer willpower, dedication and self-discipline, he held the government together," Henry A. Kissinger, Haig's mentor during President Nixon's rule wrote in his memory.
