"Castle" Season 8 will feature Rick Castle's (Nathan Fillion) attempts at finding his wife, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). ABC released the official synopsis for the two-part premiere episode titled "XY," which will focus on Rick and Kate's attempts at coming to terms with the latter's new job.
"Castle and Beckett are adjusting to Beckett's career change in the action-packed premiere. But things will take an unexpected turn after a call from a mysterious stranger set off an explosive chain of events," the synopsis read.
According to International Business Times, details about the mysterious stranger have been kept under wraps. However, fans are speculating that it could be Senator William Bracken.
In the past, actor Jack Coleman already appeared on the ABC series as Senator William Bracken. Just recently, co-showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley confirmed that he will be back.
Meanwhile, the premiere episode will also feature Castle crossing lines in order to save Beckett from her problems. "XY" will air a two-parter, which will first be told from Castle's perspective and then from Beckett's point of view, according to Christian Today.
In other news, "Castle" Season 8 will also introduce a slew of new characters. It has already been confirmed that Toks Olagundoye will play the role of Rick's new partner, Hayley.
"The O.C." alum Kelly Rowan will also guest star on the show as university dean Carla Feller. Additionally, the upcoming installment will also feature "The Walking Dead" star Sunkrish Bala. The latter will reportedly play the role of a high-strung tech analyst who has a complicated past.
"Castle" Season 8 will also feature a more mature Alexis (Molly Quinn). Rick's daughter will develop a close friendship with Hayley and will regard her as an inspiration.
"Castle" Season 8 will premiere on ABC on Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. ET.
