Taking it to the general public is working rather well for these popular US retailers in terms of location. Trunk Club, Apple, as well as other big brands have recently established outlets in areas in key cities, according to an article on crainsnewyork.com.
"A landmarked building with a more classic façade may be more charming and in keeping with a brand message than something that's clean and contemporary...if a particular property has a history and a story associated with it, then that lends some kind of value," said Robin Abrams, Executive VP at Lansco Corp., as stated in the same article.
Still in the same article, the Trunk Club, a known men's wear brand, has seen the potential in the historic Villard Mansion located at 457th Madison Avenue. The big-named retailer recognized the vintage vibe of the Gage & Tollner building and decided on putting a generous share of its wares, as a way of gaining more coverage other than online sales. In another feature article on mercurynews.com, Apple also extended another business opportunity by restoring the old Beaux Arts building into one of its retail stores. The said building used to be home to the US Mortgage & Trust Bank. The gadget enterprise was keen enough to restore as much old glory into the historical landmark, through careful restoration of plasters and marble floors - including those chandeliers - into an elegant showroom.
According to the same article, Apple is also looking into opening other stores and restoring some others in the next months; even the famous 5th Avenue Store. "It's no different than every customer downloads different apps and customizes their phones differently," said Angela Ahrendts, Apple's senior vice-president, who's in-charge with the company's online and retail stores.
