Women Fuelling Rising Demand in Rental Apartments in US

As everywhere else, women seem to have taken the center stage in driving the demand for rental apartments in America.

In a recent report CNBC revealed that demographic trends are having an effect on the recovering housing economy and women are a major factor in pushing up the demand for rental apartments.

With the change in women's education, marriage and fertility rates, demand for single family homes is going down compared to full amenity apartments. It was discovered that around 41 percent of children born in America are out of wedlock, which means most of the women in the country are single mothers.

In the report, it was found that single mothers preferred living in cities that offered better rental apartments with state-of-the-art amenities.

Demand for rented apartments is increasing significantly. According to a report of the U.S. Census, the rate of home-ownership declined in the last quarter of 2012, which now stands at 65.4 percent. The report showed that vacancy rates of rented apartments was down 0.9 percent hinting at the strong demand. Rents of these apartments are also expected to go up in the near future.

With more number of multi-family homes making their way into the housing scenario, looks like rented apartments will be a major part of the coming housing boom.
