A new report has surfaced on Thursday saying that "Destiny's" sequel was scheduled to be released this month on various consoles. It was previously said that the game was originally meant to be released in 2013.
The new information comes after several court documents have been leaked online. The court documents were obtained from an unknown online source. The documents reportedly reveal the long-standing legal dispute between Bungie and Marty O'Donnell, a popular composer who reportedly worked as "Halo's" developer.
"According to online court documents following the legal dispute between Bungie and long-time Bungie employee Marty O'Donnell, sequels for the sci-fi shooter -- referred to in the paperwork as Project Tiger -- were planned for every other year until September 2019, ending with a "largest downloadable content product" for Comet (read: Destiny) 4 in 2020," a report from IGN said on Thursday.
Gaming Illumi Naughty reports that the legal battle has delayed both Bungie's and Activision's plan for the game. It was noted that the delay has caused some major changes in the game's storyline. Thus, the game's story has been heavily altered before the title's intended release date.
The dipositive portion of the court documents, specifically in the tenth paragraph of Section II, reads: "Although Destiny was planned for release in September 2013, the story was substantially revised beginning August 2013. Requiring a new release date of March 2014 and edits to much of the work previously completed."
"These story revisions occurred a month before former Bungie lead writer Joseph Staten left the developer. Coincidence? I'll let you decide. The fact of the matter is that Destiny's story was greatly revised and edited, causing the game to be pushed back a year. Because the original game's delayed release, potential future installments of Destiny have also been pushed back. Originally, Bungie planned for a sequel to Destiny to release September 30, 2015, with another sequel in 2017, and another in 2019. A large DLC expansion was set to release in September of 2020," the report said.
