'Star Wars: Battlefront' Beta Release Date & Gameplay: Game Mode Called Drop Zone Revealed; Multiplayer Maps & More Detailed

On Thursday, EA and DICE have revealed that a new beta for "Star Wars: Battlefront" is expected to arrive soon. This new development comes after a four-minute video clip posted on You Tube, which shows the game's upcoming "King of the Hill" style game mode called "Drop Zone."

Aside from this, avid fans and players of the video game can expect new maps and modes, as announced by DICE, a report from Design & Trend said.

"First and foremost, the 'Star Wars Battlefront' beta will be accessible to all players during a specified date in October. This means that even those that didn't pre-order the game will still be able to get a taste of its multiplayer action without paying a dime. The exact days have not been released, but it's assumed the PS4 program might begin first considering EA has put most of its marketing might in Sony's corner," the report said, describing the game's upcoming beta.

Demanjo reports that the game's new "Drop Zone" mode will eventually force players into tight areas of maps in 8 v 8 match ups. This will likely force the players to take control of drop pods that are set to land on the surface. A team can only win the game if they will be able to capture the five different drop pods or control the majority of the pods after 10 minutes.

"This goes hand in hand with our design philosophy behind many of the game modes in 'Star Wars Battlefront.' We're promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet. Camping doesn't really pay off," lead level designer Dennis Brännvall said, as quoted by the aforementioned website.

"Playing Drop Zone on the Swamp Crash Site on Endor is a personal favorite. The map has a couple of nice choke points but is overall very free-flowing and hectic, as enemies can attack from anywhere on that level," Brännvall explained.

Avid players of the "Star Wars: Battlefront" will be able to enjoy a wide range of modes that are reportedly tailored for various types of battles. These include a larger 40-person competitive multiplayer and crafted missions which can be played solo or with other players through a split-screen offline or co-operatively online. The game is slated to be released on Nov. 17 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
