Technology Update: Apple to Launch Biggest 3D Touch, Not TV, Gaming Innovation

Apple's biggest gaming innovation moved into the home TV game space, but it was the 3D Touch on the iPhone 6S that was shown at its latest event. The 3D Touch brings force sensitivity to the iPhone's touchscreen. The screen knows how hard you're pressing -- if you press lightly on an e-mail message it brings up a review of the contents, and when you press harder it will snap into the e-mail message itself.

Wired reported that there are two reasons why this gaming innovation is more than a gimmick. First, it has a new control option that could let you do previously-impossible things with a method of control. Second, it allows touch-interface games to become more complex, without necessarily becoming unwieldy. Gamers can easily switch between weapons in the latest shootbang extravaganza, but Wafer is correct to note that the ability to do this while one's thumb in the aiming position, not having to move it, is a big step towards adding complexity without impairing usability.

Touch interfaces are great for gaming and adding to the sorts of things you can do with them is paramount to make games interesting, vibrant places for new types of games. For those who love games, 3D Touch is expected to be more likely than Apple TV to deliver us some games that we never knew we couldn't live without.

As a new touch-based functionality on the iPhone, 3D Touch will give you shortcuts to the functions you access often. This system, dubbed as the "next generation'' of multi-touch lets you navigate more freely among the apps to perform the actions you use most, while providing swift, tactile feedback.

The Next Web said the touch feature was first observed on the Apple Watch which named Force Touch because it lets you clear all notifications at once with a single press. New gestures introduced with 3D Touch - let you view contextual-style menus from your home screen icons, allowing access to the features within.
