Marcel Dareus' Contract Extended by Bills

As reported on Fox Sports Radio, the NFL's Buffalo Bills has agreed with Marcell Dareus for a long-term contract (i.e. a six-year extension) with $60 Million as guaranteed money. And Bills wants the contract done as soon as possible.

Just two weeks ago, Dareus expressed his sentiments to reporters saying, "I didn't think the Bills wanted me around, given their latest contract offer at the time," as cited on SB Nation. With even more cap room at their disposal, the Bills now appear prepared to add to that offer within this week. And if Bills would do enough, they will eventually earn back the goodwill from fans before the home opener.

According to a news report on Democrat & Chronicle, Bills GM Doug Whaley said in a statement: "Marcell Dareus is a tremendous player and we feel he has a great opportunity to reach his potential as a player and leader here with the Buffalo Bills. Throughout this process, we wanted Marcell to remain a Buffalo Bill for the long term and he made it clear to us that he wanted to continue his career in Buffalo. I commend Bills senior vice president of football administration Jim Overdorf and Todd France, Marcell Dareus' agent, for completing this deal before the start of the 2015 season. I also thank Terry and Kim Pegula for being committed to our philosophy of retaining an All-Pro talent like Marcell Dareus."

As a defensive-oriented coach, Rex Ryan's response was quite predictable when he spoke with reporters Thursday afternoon. "I just wish I would have been a better player. When you go back and look at that contract and things like that, it's like 'Oh my goodness.' But that was my first thought and then the second thought, obviously having him here and you're gonna have a big D-tackle sitting there with me for a long time and that's fantastic," Ryan said as quoted from an article on Democrat & Chronicle.

The 25-year-old athlete will average around $16.7 million each year within the duration of the contract.
