The said concept was brought out after it was speculated that Legendary Pictures is looking to shift its prequel Kong: Skull Island from Universal Pictures to Warner Bros. Accordingly, such move signals a shared environment of two giants, King Kong and Godzilla. A report of variety states that;
"Sources close to the situation say while this is not a done deal, things are moving forward and that the idea is to have future Kong films possibly cross over with Godzilla films, to which WB owns the sequel rights,"
Housing both giants in one environment would seem to be a good move, but it remains unclear to what position Universal would be. As to the deadline's report, "It is unclear at the moment what Universal's position will be, but I heard the studio move is being done because it is just easier to have all the pieces under one roof, something that Marvel Studios has done with superheroes like The Hulk. King Kong is in the public domain, while Legendary got the Godzilla rights from Toho."
Now this is not a first time that battles of giant monsters are set on screen. Even Godzilla itself faced giant monsters such as Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah. However, those fights could not simply match the excitement of seeing the kings of monster cinema go head-to-head.
While each franchise is still gearing up for their own production and debuts. We would just have to wait and see if such 'fight of the century' would then come true. And if not, then we might just as well reminisce and enjoy ourselves with 1962's King Kong vs. Godzilla. (Click for Video)
