Steven Holl-Designed Texas Stretto House Going for $3.9 Million

Starchitect Steven Holl is perhaps best known for building the famous Simmons Hall dormitory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and his work at the Museum of Modern art in New York.

The Stretto House in Dallas Texas, which was exclusively designed by Holl for an impressed couple, who hitched him to build the home in 1991, has reportedly hit the listing market with a price tag of $3.9 million.

The home lies on a 1.5 acre lot in the Northwest area of Dallas, Texas. The residence comprises of 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms all encompassed under curved roof planes. Comprising of four separate units, the home looks like dams on a creek, reports Significant Homes.

Holl drew inspiration for the home's design from a symphony of percussion and strings created by Bela Bartok. The place features glass walls and cordial entertaining spaces. Vast well landscaped lawns line the exteriors of the home. A detached guest house, swimming pool and three ponds also exist on the property, reports Curbed.

The Stretto House features one of the best architectural designs of all times. Holl was given the AIA National Honor Award in 1993 for the design of the house.

"All the polishing, shaping, and framing recedes into a kind of visual white noise, eluding definition instead of demanding attention, and giving the clients the freedom to enjoy the masterful evocation of dwelling and creek that provides the house's basic diagram." Progressive Architecture posted a review about the home in November 1992.
