Berkeley Breathed, the "Bloom County" cartoonist and creator of "Mars Needs Moms" has listed his ocean-view Santa Barbara estate in California with a price tag of $4.95 million.
The home is spread across an area of 5241 square feet on a 25 acre lot in the foothills of Montecito. Built in 2001, the home is a single family residence that offers beautiful views of the ocean and the mountains.
The home consists of five bedrooms and five bathrooms and sports tiled and carpeted flooring throughout. A living room, family room, library/study, an office and a pantry with an open kitchen exist in the property. Its luxury features include, an in-ground spa and pool, and an exclusive theatre. The home features well landscaped lawns along with open patios and a dog run, all encompassed in a fenced community, reports Realtor.com.
Apparently, Breathed worked on his Hollywood projects of "Secondhand Lions" and "Mars Needs Moms" in the luxury of his Santa Barbara home. He is selling the home in order to be closer to his children's school, reports LA Times. Breathed has two children with spouse, Jody Boyman.
"I'd gotten quite used to working high above the Santa Barbara clouds in a Xanadu-like studio that appears designed for Captain Nemo. Their particular school forced a painful decision to come back to downtown Earth." Breathed told LA Times.
He shot to fame with his comic strip series featuring "Opus" - a philosophical penguin and "Bloom County"- another satiric political strip. He won the Pulitzer Prize in the 'editorial cartooning' section in 1987 for the strip.
Breathed and his family are rather private people. The famous cartoonist has given a few interviews to online magazines and other newspapers. In an interview with CNN in 2009, he said that the protagonist of his book "Flawed Dogs" was inspired by one of the fighter dogs of famous football quarterback, Michael Vick. Breathed himself is an animal rights activist and has rescued a number of dogs as well.
He is currently busy working on a film which is an adaptation of his novel, "Flawed Dogs". The film is being developed by Dreamworks Studios.
