Bob Costas Snags Newport Beach Home for $4.7 Million

Bob Costas, the NBC sportscaster, has picked up a nice Newport Beach, ocean front home for a good $4.7 million.

The home is located in the posh gated community of Crystal Cove, where Boston Red Sox player, John Lackey also owns a mansion. However, Lackey has listed his mansion for $10 million in November 2012, reports Realtor.com.

Spread across an area of 5,434 square feet, the estate comprises of four bedrooms and six bathrooms and sports complete hardwood flooring and crown moldings. The place has modern furniture and interiors of elegant taste. It has a modern kitchen with a breakfast bar and a small dining area facing it.

The sprawling property boasts of stretching gardens, a large infinity pool with a pool house featuring an outdoor kitchen. A separate spa and a bocce ball court is also a part of the property. An outdoor sitting area with a stone fireplace makes up the exterior. A separate guest casita is also available on the property, reports CelebDigs.

Bob Costas is known as a 'smart interviewer' with detailed subject knowledge and a quirky sense of humor. He has won three Emmy awards for sportscasting and has been ranked #6 by the American Sportscasting Association in its top-50 Sportscasters list of 2009. He was also the primetime host of nine Olympic Games.

Costas grabbed headlines in 2012 for his monologue at halftime of the NFL game between Eagles and Cowboys. He used the halftime break to reflect on the gun control issue, which was prompted by the suicide case of Jovan belcher, linebacker of Kansas City Chiefs. His comments received a lot of censure from fans and the public.

Recently, Costas featured in the "Meet the Press"show in which he reflected on the current NFL games and its future.

"For all the drama, the excitement, the strategy, all the appealing things about football, the way football is currently played in the NFL is fundamentally unsustainable," Costas said in the Interview.

Costas will also be joining the programming lineup on Sports Talk 1040. His program "Costas Coast to Coast" will now air on various sports affiliates of NBC that includes Sports Talk 1040, reports Business Journal.
