It's one big argument between moms and, usually teenaged, kids - developing the habit of making the bed in the morning. But come to think of it, even adult couples may find their selves in a heated discussion when dealing with this daily morning chore. Whether you are one of those who find the morning rush as an excuse, or just simply not into the practice of putting your bed in order, here are some of the reasons why you should try reconsidering your stance.
1. It gives a feeling of accomplishment
A small task as it may seem, but starting your day by making your bed sure gives a sense of accomplishment. Requiring just a few minutes of your time, starting your morning by tidying up and organizing can ignite a positive tone that can be felt for the rest of the day as you feel you are on the top of things.
2. It Increases productivity
It is one way of literally putting yesterday behind and paving way for the opportunities of a bright, new day. US Navy Admiral William McRaven once gave an inspirational talk to university students about bed making and mentions that: "It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed."
3. It reduces stress
Making your bed is a way of decluttering your space. Clutters constantly remind us on a scattered and disorganized state of being and this can certainly drag you down and make you uncomfortable, which is a great source of stress.
4. It makes your room look and feel cleaner
The bed is the focal point of your bed room. With your pillows and sheets positioned properly, everything else seems to follow and this sure gives that room of yours a great feel and look.
5. It prevents embarrassment.
You may have experienced at least once in your life: when you left your room hurriedly in the morning and upon getting home, you have an unexpected visitor who pops into your room. Whether that visitor is a long-time friend or a relative, you sure would not want to leave a bad impression.
6. It leads you to doing other good things
Once you have developed the habit of being organized and tidy by doing that very first chore when you wake up, you will be able to apply it unconsciously to other aspects and areas in your life such as in your closet, study table, bathroom, etc. Putting away items will certainly be your way of life.
7. It rewards you by offering a retreat
After spending a long and tiring day in the school or office, it sure would be a reward to come home and have a retreat in your clean and neat bed. Lying down will not only calm and relax your body, it will also give your mind peace and tranquility for the rest of the night.
