Finally, Donald Trump will be making an appearance on the Late Show and Stephen Colbert will get to have a tête-à-tête with the Republican presidential fore-runner.
According to Newsweek, Trump will come to the Ed Sullivan Theater on September 22. Obama's energy secretary, Ernest Moniz, will be there as well. Moreover, according to Newsweek, the Late Show has already made several attempts to book Trump but it was only now that Trump agreed.
Initially, Colbert wanted to have Trump on the show for its Sept. 11 episode, but Trump opted to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon instead. So, Colbert extended the invitation to Hillary Clinton but she too declined and opted for the other show, in which she will appear on Sept 16.
Newsweek did a review of Colbert's Late Show debut, and it turns out that Hillary and Donald may be holding back on being grinded by the funny man's sense of humor. Unlike Jimmy Fallon who seems to be more modest as an interviewer, Colbert is known to have built his entire career out of mocking politicians on his show. So it would be understandable if public figures like Clinton and Trump would want to veer away from Stephen Colbert if they want to protect their public image.
The very first presidential candidate to bravely step into Colbert's show as it debuted was Jeb Bush. It was surprising that Colbert and the Florida governor talked mostly about softball and made a joke about Trump's hair, the part of the show which barely got aired. That first episode of the Late Show earned 6.6 million viewers, according to deadline.com.
Recently, Trump had proclaimed himself as "Ratings Machine". Will the Late Show garner even more viewers on Sept 22 with Trump on the show?
