What's the best interior paint for your home?
Consumer Reports released the list of 65 brands, but it's not Benjamin Moore or Behr that we all know. Clark Kensington, only found at Ace stories, tops the list for satin and semigloss finishes and flat paints.
Clark Kensington is a self-primer, so you don't need to a primer coat.
The best interior paints should hide with just one coat while still maintaining a low or no VOCs requirement-volatile organic compounds-that linked to air pollution and respiratory issues.
Behr Premium Plus Satin Enamel was reportedly downgraded from its previous better ratings and was found to wear out when cleaned. While Valspar Signature moved up and outdone Benjamin Moore, which is almost twice the cost at $68 a gallon.
Consumer Reports, according to ABC News 13, noted that none of the top picks were less than $20, and the most inexpensive paints should be avoided. Clark Kensington costs around $33 a gallon. They also recommended that paint tapes should be appropriate for the job, and you can afford to spend a few more dollars.
Consumer Report's John Galeotafiore told News 13 that, "a good tape keeps the paint from bleeding underneath it, it's easy to remove, and it doesn't take the paint off with it."
The report tells consumers should go online to choose from colors and calculate how much is needed before buying. You can do this directly on the manufacturer websites. And with color-matching technology, you don't have to visit the store clerk to spot the best color for your room.
Flat paints can cover marks, but it's more likely to get stains and need to be used on walls with less contact, semigloss works best on surfaces that don't need frequent cleaning, while low-luster satin and eggshell are sturdy on any surfaces.
