The royals of the world have always lived in style, no matter which part of the world they belong to. The latest piece of royal estate to hit the market is the former mansion of the Sultan of Brunei, in Los Angeles. It has been listed for $38 million.
The mansion is located north of Sunset Boulevard and provides for exquisite city views. It once served as a pied-a-terre for the Sultan when he visited California.
According to the listing on Redfin, the Sultan purchased it in 1987 and renovated the place with the help of famed designer/architects Tom Proctor and Tim Morrison. The Spanish-styled colonial estate is spread across an area of 1.3 acres and the mansion measures around 14,000 square feet. The palatial residence comprises of eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms.
The two-story mansion has seven fireplaces each in the family room, living room, dining room, library/study, the guest house and also in the master suite.
A separate powder room and a dressing area are also available. The place also features a modern kitchen with built in ranges and pantry and a laundry room.
Exterior features include an open patio and a covered porch that overlooks vast landscaped gardens. A cabana, an infinity swimming pool and a 30-
car garage are all encompassed in the gated community.
The Sultan of Brunei is known to be the "King of Luxury". He is famous for his 7000 car garage in which he maintains some of the most exquisite cars of the world.
He is one of the wealthiest men in the world and his investments and properties are worth billions. He visited his Bel-Air and Beverly Hills hotel for the first time in 25 years in 2011.
More recently he got his 30-year-old daughter married with great pomp and ceremony in September 2012. The "Arabian Nights" style wedding was a grand ceremony held in the Throne Hall of Istana Nurul Iman Palace in Brunei.
