The sandy fight between celebrity homeowners and regular beach goers continue as more complaints pour in with privately-employed bodyguards throwing people off the beaches in Malibu.
Theguardian.com recently reported on beachgoers who are no longer allowed to spend some sun time because of trespass notices and guards who are just doing their duties on behalf of their celebrity employers. Famous celebrities who own acres of land due to acquisition of prime property near the beachfront have restricted public access, even a single step on the sand on what they call 'their property. Angelina Jolie, David Geffen, Dr Dre, Robert Redford and many others have bought and owned these properties within Malibu's beaches and also used their status plus wealth to ward off these illegal trespassers, who are just coming to enjoy also their right to be on these public beaches.
Jenny Price, who founded a Malibu beach finder app that allows the public access to open waters aka specific public beaches, commented "There's 27 miles of beach in Malibu - it's one of the few public spaces we have in LA County - and out of those 27, 20 are blocked by private development...Those 20 miles have for decades been treated as a private riviera ... It's the most egregious example of privatisation of public land in Los Angeles." Malibu's Escondido Beach has seen witness to common folk getting ousted and not allowed to bask in the sun, complete with threats on fines and trespassing private property, as stated in the same article.
In another article on latimes.com, a parking incident involving software engineer Aaron Crow and an LA county sheriff's deputy citing the former for illegal parking with a $53 ticket is getting noted once again. And it involved Dreamworks Pictures' founder David Geffen. More on the story here.
