"Samsung Galaxy S6" is bringing its A-game: QHD screen, powerful processor, premium design, and oodles of features. There's no doubt that it's one of the most popular phones of the year. However, Apple, the only company in the business that's bigger than Samsung, just released the "iPhone 6S," and it has a strong chance of outselling S6 with a premium design of its own and high-end specs and features.
Techradar.com does a roundup of the design and features of two of the current hottest gadgets in the smart phone industry today.
Design
Coming in at just 7.1mm thick, the "iPhone 6S" is a fine slab of metal with very little breaking up the smooth lines of its aluminum build.
The "Samsung Galaxy S6" is similarly stylish at a slightly slimmer thickness of 6.8mm. It does come with a metal frame and glass back that is unfortunately prone to picking up fingerprints. You can pick up the white model and not worry about that problem, however, you miss out on the gemstone-like finish that comes with the other shades.
Display
Similar to "iPhone 6", the 6S model also comes with a 4.7-inch 1334 x 750 IPS LCD display, making it one of the more compact smartphones in the market.
"Samsung Galaxy S6" offers a larger screen at 5.1-inch 1440 x 2560 and pixel density of 577 pixels per inch. While it is bigger and sharper, iPhone 6S at its specs competes very well which also helps its battery life, where the S6 is having a problem with.
Power and Performance
In terms of performance, "iPhone 6S" offers sharpness with its A9 processor making it faster at 70% for CPU tasks and 90% for graphics than the A8 chip in the iPhone 6.
The "Galaxy S6" on the other hand has an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, with four cores running at 2.1GHz and the remaining four clocked at 1.5GHz which puts it on the powerhouse level. While "iPhone 6S" appears like an underdog on paper, Apple's reputation for offering seriously slick performance already brings 6S on the forefront.
Camera
The "iPhone 6S" comes with 12MP main camera and 5MP front-facing one which are upgrades from the still impressive "iPhone 6." Apple is known for having some of the best cameras found on a smartphone and we're not expecting the "iPhone 6S" to be any exception.
"Samsung Galaxy S6" camera wins the product camera testing for its 16MP sensor on the back and complete optical image stabilization for blur prevention and a 5MP front camera.
OS
Apple fans can enjoy IOS 9 in the new "iPhone 6S" which offers improvements to Siri, Apple Maps features, and all the slick intuitiveness of its predecessor, iOS 8.
The "Samsung Galaxy S6" on the other hand runs Android 5.1 overlaid with TouchWiz. Samsung's TouchWiz UI has been divisive over the years, but it's at its best here, while Android Lollipop is the cleanest and best version of Android yet.
However, 6S surpasses the competition with its 3D touch feature which serves as a shortcut to certain features where a light tap on certain things will do one thing, while a harder press does another command.
Battery
The "Samsung Galaxy S6" biggest downside is perhaps its battery, which at 2,550mAh is smaller than the "Samsung Galaxy S5's" and won't typically last more than a day between charges.
Though it's too early to say how well 6S will do in the battery life department, we're hoping that it would perform better than Samsung's, though the official stats are the same as those for the "iPhone 6," which doesn't last much more than a day itself.
Price and availability
The "Samsung Galaxy S6" can be grabbed from around £410 ($600, AU$800) for the 32GB version, while the "iPhone 6S" is launching for £539 ($649, AU$1,079) in its smallest size. So Apple is on the much pricier end, but it's an Apple product, which no longer makes the price tag surprising.
Since it's newer, "iPhone 6S" might initially be more limited as compared to "Samsung Galaxy 6" that's been out for a while now.
