'Canon' Expo in New York Unveiled 5k Resolution Virtual Reality ‘VR’ Device

It was on the early 1950's that world started its interest with virtual reality. According to some experts, the term virtual reality was first used in the realm of science fiction with Stanley G. Weinbaum's "Pygmalion's Spectacles." Since then term was not just employed in the novels but as well as on the theater and in the movie industry.

In today's understanding, virtual reality can be referred to as an immersive multimedia or computer-simulated life. It takes its form on most devices which tries to "replicate an environment that simulates physical presence in places in the real world or imagined worlds and lets the user interact in that world."1 And just recently, one of the world's leading electronic brand, Canon, ventured into the market of immersive wearable with the introduction of their VR device or Virtual Reality Headset. In the recently concluded Canon Expo in New York, the Japanese company introduced their virtual reality viewer. The device is brimming with interesting display and new optic technology though it is still a prototype. The known device having a prototype nature is still to be named, but with its distinct design, having a square with rounded edges and two downward pointing handles, you will definitely know it is one from Canon.

Though details about the Virtual Reality device are still scarce, some still managed to describe their own firsthand experience with the device. According to some of the expo attendees, the device offers a dual 2560x1440 displays for a total of 5k resolution and 120 degrees field of view. And to complement the visual features, the Canon VR device also has multi-directional sound, which according to its manufacturer via mashable offers "a sense of orientation aligned with viewing direction."

With its current aesthetic design, some experts contend that it is still far away from being a commercial product. However with Canon's track record in imaging technology and gadgetry, time would come that the prototype would soon be a household name.
