'Sherlock' Season 4 Air Date & Spoilers: TV Series' Christmas Special Victorian Setting to Spook Viewers; Sherlock to be Less Brattish

Fans will have to wait for 2017 for "Sherlock" Season 4 to premiere, but it was earlier reported that the show will be airing a Christmas special in December this year.

According to Christian Today, creator Steven Moffat revealed that the show will run for 90 minutes and will be set during the Victorian Era.

Moffat reportedly teased that Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman) will be completely different in the special episode. In an interview, Moffat said that Watson will "be more uptight" and Sherlock will be "a lot less brattish."

Moffat elaborated that Sherlock will be nicer in the episode, which is the complete opposite of his attitude in the modern times. He added that the two main characters will copy the manners of a Victorian gentleman, and it is completely different from their modern versions.

Moffat explained, "They're the same people, seen through the prism of a different time and fitting in to a different society." He also revealed that the Victorian setting will give a spooky feel to the story. He said that this episode will only happen once and it is not at all linked to Season 4, which is set to begin its production sometime next year. He said that Season 4 will revert back to the modern era.

According to Latin Post, "Sherlock" Season 4 will be darker and also be more intense. It revealed that the show will have different surprising plot twists. It was earlier reported that as Season 4 returns, fans can expect Mary and Dr. Watson to have a child, and if the show will follow the books, it is also expected that Mary will die from childbirth.

As of writing, there is still no scheduled release date for Sherlock Season 4; however, it is expected to air sometime in 2017. Meanwhile, "Sherlock" Christmas Special is expected to air in December 2015.
