If you are planning to take your luxurious "Xperia Z5" for a dip, Sony has bad news for you. They are currently changing their guidelines for the phone and they are now advising everyone that you must not give your "Xperia Z5" an underwater adventure. If you do, you might void its warranty.
Waterproof devices has been Xperia's greatest selling point in the past years and "Z5" may have the highest water and dust resistance rating. It implies that the device has been tested for its waterproof abilities. As a test, they have immersed it in fresh water for half an hour in up to 1.5 meters depths.
But as of now, Sony has changed the language that they use in the waterproof claims:
"The IP rating of your device was achieved in laboratory conditions in standby mode, so you should not use the device underwater,"
What that means is that Sony won't guarantee that your device will remain undamaged when you take it with you as you swim and snap. Generally, Sony may be claiming that they did not test the handset in all possible scenarios.
Needless to say, the "Xperia Z5" may still be one of the best phones that has the waterproof feature.
A representative of the company said in a forum:
"There are... many environmental factors which we could not assess [during testing]... Therefore we recommend not submerging our 'Xperia Z5' in water... You should not put the device completely underwater or expose it to seawater, salt water, chlorinated water or liquids such as drinks..."
So one thing to keep in mind before falling for the futuristic feature claims by companies: never fall 100%. As amusing as it is that tech devices can be submerged in water without destroying it, everything has conditions. Too much action can damage waterproof phones, water chemicals and salt may also not have good effects on the device. The same logic can be applied to shock proof phones. They are resistant to accidental shocks, but they are not guaranteed to stay stable if you forcefully slam it at the wall whenever you have temper issues.
